The Pink Rose

Posted in Casas, flowers, Huntington Beach, Larry and Shelley, Photography by Bridget Casas on July 22, 2011

I took this photograph at Larry and Shelley’s house. Actually, I took it with my cellphone . I believe this is the first image I have used from my phone. I wasn’t quite sure what to do with the resolution. I am not real happy with the way this looks so I may work on it later. (Update: I did change it and it looks a lot better, it is just rather small compared to my other photos). It has been several months since I posted and now that the weather is warm, I will work on doing more.  I downloaded the image using Adobe Bridge into camera raw where I increased the vibrance and lowered the exposure a little. Then took it into Photoshop and cropped it. Usually I show my metadata in the caption under the photo, but I really don’t have any to share today. I will give this a tag of Blackberry 9530, but that is all I have to report!

This is an image of a rose I took that is blooming in my front yard. I love the effect the filter I used gave it. As I said the other day, I love these filters and the black and white effects they produce. I will be doing much more of it and sharing the images with you here.

A Friendly Pink Rose

Posted in Huntington Beach, Photography by Bridget Casas on August 16, 2009

Rose_1377

I especially liked this rose because of the gradient pink and rose colors and the yellow towards the center. I have done a lot of flower photos this month. I will try to do more variety from now on. Look at how much darker the older rose got in the left of this photo. The life of a rose! I just wish it was a little sharper!

A Still Life Photograph

Roses_1722

As I was loading my dishwasher earlier today, this vase with sitting on the counter with the beautiful rose buds I cut yesterday for my photograph. I love the vase they are in. It was given to me by a very dear friend many, many years ago. I thought the roses looked so I pretty, how could I not photograph them!? I took the vase outside on the patio, changed my lens and took a few photos. I wanted to make sure I got the flowers and the vase, but nothing too distracting in the background.  I didn’t do any retouching on the roses – just a little vignetting. Do you like it?

Back With My Lensbaby

Rose_Lensbaby_1721

I walked outside this afternoon and looked over at my rose bushes. I did a post a while ago where I stated that my neighbors have all the pretty roses. Well, I guess I was  wrong!  Isn’t this a beautiful rose? I used my Lensbaby +10 macro filter. It is so much fun to use. I think I finally got my diopter at the right setting. My focal point is closer to where I want it to be. I guess it will never be perfect as long as I have to wear glasses! I first wore glasses in the 3rd grade so I guess I am stuck with them!

A Rose in My Neighbor’s Yard

Posted in Huntington Beach, Photography by Bridget Casas on May 22, 2009

Well, I could not resist this pretty pink rose. I guess this has been pink flower week! But this was in someone elses yard, not mine. There were no macro shots today! Just a wide angle zoom lens. I need to figure out a way to include the meta data in these posts, without have to copy and paste it, which I guess would not be that bad. Anyway, I hope you like this rose as much as I did when I came across it on my journey through the neighborhood.

This rose is so pretty in pink…

Sorry for the John Hughes reference, but it applies! I was out doing some errands this morning and it was cloudy and rather humid – maybe there are some storms down in Mexico. Quite often that is when we get a lot of humidity. Donnan’s tummy is bothering him some. I feel bad that they are going to be alone a lot this week-end. We will be out in Riverside in Corona for our nephew’s wedding. It is also Larry and Shelley’s one year anniversary on Sunday. They will be up at Green Valley Lake, I am sure with a lot better weather than one year ago! Have a good Memorial Day week-end, if you are here in the USA. Otherwise, just have a great week-end whereever you are!

A Visit to the Rose Garden

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on May 2, 2009

The rose garden at the Heritage House Museum is gorgeous. It will get even prettier as summer progresses. They have a large variety of roses in all sizes and colors. I thought this one was one of the most beautiful – but I did not catch it’s name. They all had tags but I did not see the one for this rose. What do you think? The weather has been good today so I will assume that the wedding went off without a hitch!

Beautiful roses blooming in the rose garden…

I got Photoshop CS4 and Dreamweaver downloaded today. It looks like I have a lot of learning to do! I know Dreamweaver from my class, but Photoshop has a lot of different features. I am sure NAPP has a lot of videos I could look at, plus lynda.com has a zillion of them! I am watching Barefoot Contessa as I type this. I like her show – even Willie watches it once in a while with me! Kyla and Donnan are sleeping, and looking over at Willie, well, no difference – he is asleep too! I am in for an exciting Saturday! Until tomorrow…

Beautiful Bouquet of Red Roses

Posted in Huntington Beach, Personal, Photography by Bridget Casas on April 16, 2009

I took this photograph a while ago and I am very proud to say that the roses are from my own yard! I think they are absolutely some of the most beautiful roses I have seen. I know I said in a previous post that my neighbors have all the pretty roses, but I guess that is not completely true! I took some other photos today at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. I will look at them tomorrow and see if there is anything to share with you.

A very special bouquet of roses…

I had an absolutely great day today! I met my friend Carol for lunch and we had a fantastic time – as we always do together. She is looking so good and healthy and I am very proud of her. We talked a lot about what she is doing for her diet and health. Then we spent a few hours talking about our dogs! I told you before about the dog training she was going through and how bad it was when my Donnan met her Ali (an unforgettable day)! I learned many things from her regarding the dogs and she has a great new camera strap (Black Rapid RS-4). I would like to get one but I have been unable to find it online. If you know of a source, please let me know!

My Neighbors Have the Pretty Roses!

Posted in Huntington Beach, Photography by Bridget Casas on March 24, 2009

This is from Eleanor’s front yard, she lives right across the street. She has many pretty flowers in her yard. I figured you would want to see this rather than another dog or some wildlife! I really like the color – doesn’t it seem a little different? She had some nice pink and white roses too, but I chose this one. It was a little windy again so I was glad I was able to get the photo.

A peach of a rose…

It was a very sunny day today and it was warmer too. Willie took the dogs for a walk today and brought me another pretty rock. I had a good meeting with my broker this morning. We were able to get some good work done. I worked on my slide show  today from the races a couple of weeks ago. I really want to get it done so I can share it with you! I have class tonight and I hope it is not going to be too late.

My Neighbor’s Rose

Posted in Huntington Beach, Photography by Bridget Casas on March 20, 2009

I noticed this rosebush and the beautiful roses across the street at my neighbor’s house. I went in the house to get my camera and I stood on the sidewalk to take the photo. It looks so pretty with the white fence  in the background. The roses turn more white as they open up and mature. Aren’t they pretty? I have a lot of photos of cars and animals this month so I thought I would soften things up with a rose.

A gorgeous white rose with a touch of pink….

I dropped Willie off at Larry’s work this afternoon. They are on their way up to Mammoth. They will be home late tomorrow afternoon. It will be a good bonding time for both of them. Shelley went up to Santa Maria (just north of Santa Barbara) to visit with her brother. I am here at home with Kyla and Donnan! I have class in the morning, then I do not know what I will do with the rest of my day!

Another Rainy Day

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on February 6, 2009

Well, we had another day of rain here in Surf City! It looks like it should rain through the week-end.  I was going out this morning to take a daytime photo for my Saturday morning class when I saw this flower. It is kind of a water logged rose which will probably not bloom much more.  There is just a hint of sunlight on a few of the leaves and a splatter of raindrops too. I like it.

A rain-soaked rose…

I have another assignment that I need to complete for my Tuesday night photography class. The problem is, I need bright sunlight and shadows for one part of it. There is not too much of that around here right now. Last Wednesday was the only day with bright sun and I was out of the area all day. The HB Pier web cam was not working earlier today. Maybe the rain is affecting the cameras. The GVL one is working just fine so you can check out the new snow up there! Have a good week-end and I hope you have time to look at some of my photographs.

A Rose of Fuchsia Color

Posted in Huntington Beach, Personal, Photography by Bridget Casas on January 21, 2009

I could not let a month of photographs go by without a gorgeous rose. There are not a lot of roses in our front yard now, but this one was smart enough to bloom. My stomach was bothering me alot yesterday so I did not go to the park with Willie and the dogs. I decided to stay close to home to take my photograph for today. I love the colors.

winter_rose_2240-copy

Fuchsia is a beautiful color for a rose…

It is kind of a dreary day today. We may get some rain by tomorrow. It is a sad day because my mother died one year ago. I wanted to go to the cemetary today but I don’t know why – she is not there. I can visit and speak with her anywhere. Not a day goes by that I do not think of her or speak to her. The last four years of her life we communicated on a daily basis and she became very dependent on me. I still miss her and love her very much. Hopefully my stomach will feel better tomorrow and it will be a better day.

I Am Sorry, Another Rose

Posted in Huntington Beach, Personal, Photography by Bridget Casas on December 18, 2008

It rained all day yesterday and I was very busy. This is a photograph I took of a rose that bloomed in my front yard. It is also on the home page of my website. It came out well. I have photographed these roses many times, but it has been a while. I have another rose I took a photo of that is on my business cards. I hope you enjoy it.  I could not resist sharing it with you because it is such a beautiful photograph!

redrose_2226-copy

Shelley came by and picked up some tamales and beans yesterday. Larry called last night and they were a big hit! They both really liked them (I made special cheese ones for Shelley)! I got the biggest compliment from Larry:  “they remind me of my grandma’s” (Willie’s mom who died 20 years ago). Gayle is going to make more chicken but I don’t know about me. It is a lot of work. Maybe if I can get Willie to help. The dogs seemed to enjoy playing in the rain. They looked like drowned rats!

A Rose Blooms in December

Posted in Personal, Photography by Bridget Casas on December 17, 2008

Three days ago Willie brought in a rose he cut from the backyard. Its bloom was gorgeous. On the same stem was a bud that was wrapped tightly. We didn’t think it would open. Well, yesterday morning it started to open. I took the photo this morning with my +1 close-up filter and no flash. I think it came out very beautiful – very soft.

yellowrose_3604-copy

We woke up to rain this morning. It is probably going to rain all day. There is a lot of snow up in the mountains. If it is clear tomorrow, I will try to take a picture of the mountains covered with snow. We are also going to try to get to the mall tomorrow. If nothing else, at least to do some window shopping. I made the sweet tamales last night and Willie liked them. I don’t like them myself so he can have them all. Until tomorrow…

Get Out and Vote!

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on November 4, 2008

Isn’t this a beautiful rose?  It is growing in Larry and Shelley’s backyard and I wanted to photograph it. I was able to take a few photos before the sun went down on Saturday. Today is election day so maybe I should have something a little more patriotic. Maybe I can go out and take a patriotic photograph somewhere today! But for now, I think this rose will work just fine.

rose_0360-copy

A beautifully colored rose….

I added a new widget to my sidebar today. It will keep you up to date on the weather here in Huntington Beach. I thought it might be fun. I spent most of the day Sunday working on my website. I added some new photo slide shows of Olvera Street, Union Station and the car show we went to on Saturday morning. Check them out if you get a chance. Yesterday was spent doing errands. My life is so exciting! Get out and vote!

Oh, The Yellow Rose of …?

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on October 19, 2008

This rose bush is growing in my backyard. It produces beautiful yellow roses, don’t you think?  Larry was over yesterday and we got a lot done in the garage and the backyard. I didn’t have much time to plan a photograph to shoot. It was a nice day yesterday. Kyla and Donnan like Larry and they behaved very well. Larry has told us in the past that they are out of control, he didn’t say that yesterday!

Lovely Rose

Lovely Rose

I still have several boxes of my mother’s things stacked up in my living room. Aside from the eyesore they create, it is difficult for me to go through them and get rid of things. I feel that if it was important to my mother to have in her small home, who am I to get rid of it?  Larry put a few of the boxes in the garage and said I have six months to go through them or he will do it and get rid of stuff.  Is that fair?
