I was out at the race track in Fontana last Saturday to take photos of the Austin Healey Association members and their cars. The turnout was low because of the rain and cold weather. But as you can tell from this photo, the ones who were there had a lot of fun! They were lined up on the grid getting ready to go out on the track for the first time. How exciting! The rest of the photos and more can be seen on my gallery. It was great using my Canon 7D. The next time though, I will rent a longer telephoto lens. I think that will make it more fun. I just needed to do a white balance adjustment on all the images. I need to work on that so my images will have the proper balance when taken.
This was hanging down at the beach outside a little store. It was whirling and twirling around. However, I do not know what to call it! It is not a flag or a banner, but like a stationary kite hanging from a pole. I thought it was very pretty and colorful. I stopped the action for the photo but maybe I should have lowered my shutter speed so you could see some movement! Or if I had had a video camera, I could have shown you the whole show!
A great summer image from Laguna Beach…
I am going to meet my friend Annette for lunch tomorrow at Corner Bakery Cafe. She has never been there. Have you? I heard back from Randi today (my nephew Geoff’s girlfriend) who said it was very hot and an unsuccessful week-end for all of the Monises at Fontana Raceway. I thanked her for alleviating my guilt for not going – she said I made a wise decision. It was quite warm today and I spent time sorting and working on some of my photos from the PhotoWalk. I will download some of them at the end of the week. Until tomorrow!
This is my nephew Geoff at Blue Skeye Ranch. I believe this was his first time on a horse and he was such a good sport. This is the second photo of Geoff this month! He is a champion race car driver competing in the VARA (Vintage Auto Racing Assoc.) circuit around Southern California. I have shown other photos of him in his MG Midget at Fontana Raceway. He is a great young man along with his girlfriend Randi. We all laughed so much – it was a very fun day!
Remind you of Gene Autry or Rhinestone Cowboy?…
Another great day today here in Huntington Beach. The weather was a little warmer. I was looking at the school schedules at GWC and CCC for the Fall to see what I can take. I cannot decide if I want to take Flash again or try Illustrator again but with a different teacher. I took Illustrator several years ago so I could use a refresher. Larry wants me work on a family crest so that could be my project. I am going to lunch on Thursday with my friend Carol. We have a lot in common (photography, school, the dogs, etc.) which gives us a lot to talk about! I love spending time with her!
This is another of my nephews, Greg, with his wife of almost two years, Sarah. Aren’t they a very sweet couple? Greg is my brother Frankie’s eldest son who works at the shop with him. Greg is quite the mechanic and race car driver. He does the website for Frank Monise Motors and also plans all of the marketing. He is also very active in VARA. He is making a real change in the business and his marketing ideas are working out real well. Sarah is a phlebotomist.
A photo from the wedding two weeks ago…
It was an absolutely gorgeous day today! However, I was determined to finish the wedding photos so I was unable to take advantage of it. Halleluah, I finished all of the photos! I just need to put them on a disc for Ryan and Sophia (the bride and groom) and them download them on a website so everyone can see them. I have emailed them several PDF’s of the photos. I am very happy with the results and I hope everyone involved is also. I feel very confident that they will like them all. I hope Greg and Sarah like this photo. I will send them a link.
I was going through the 1,200 photos from the wedding of almost two weeks ago, and came across this photo of my nephew Geoff with his girlfriend Randi. You have seen him before in his MG Midget racing around the tracks at Fontana Speedway. Both of them were in the video I posted from the VARA races. Aren’t they a sweet looking couple? They are both so cute! Randi is a grammar school teacher and her students are very lucky to have her! Hopefully she will not become a victim of our “Terminator” Governor’s budget cuts!
Randi Clark and Geoff Monise…
I have some great pictures of them at Blue Skeye Ranch riding the horses. Geoff had never been on a horse before and he was a great sport! My brother Frankie has two great sons – he is very lucky! Geoff and Randi have been together for several years and Willie had the audacity to ask them when they are getting married. They replied in two years. Well, hopefully that will happen and there will be another new member of our family, even though she already feels like a member of the family. I guess that is enough family stuff for a Friday! Have a good week-end and please come back tomorrow!
This post for today is a little different from my normal posts. I finally finished my slide show and uploaded it to You Tube so you can view it here. However, they took my audio out so I had to replace it. It was Route 66 by the Rolling Stones. I can use that song for my class slide show and to email to people, I just can’t use it on the web. I understand but I don’t have to like it! I did not do this for profit, just for a class project! Oh, well!
It plays and sounds much better with the Rolling Stones…
It was fun putting this together and I hope you like it. I hope class is good tonight. I look forward to seeing the other student’s videos and what they are about. I don’t know what our next assignment is. My instructor’s wife had their first baby last week so I think his mind has been somewhere else. I understand how that can happen. I have some errands to do today before class. I am sure it will be a late night and hopefully a very productive one! Please enjoy the video and leave a comment so I know what you think of it.
This is rather an unusual photograph for me, but I love it and I had so much fun shooting these photos. I have several hundred we took that day. This is at my friend’s Robin and she had two of her grandchildren and two neighbor kids chase the horses so we could get some photos of them running. This is one of my favorites and that is why I am sharing it with you. I thought she had six horses and it seems she has added another one! How does she do it? Aren’t they beautiful creatures? I have never been into horses but I really enjoyed being around these. Please let me know what you think of this image.
Beautiful horses running through the meadow…
I have many, many photos I can share with you. All of her animals are very photogenic, even the chicken! It was a fun morning and we are going back next Sunday for a celebration of my mother’s birthday. My brother’s will be there along with their families so I am really looking forward to it! I have not worked on my slide show of the VARA races in over a week so I need to concentrate on that this week. I have not been getting much support from Photo to Movie. I may need to find another way to do it. Have any of you used Windows Movie Maker? Someone told me I should try that. We’ll see. Have a nice holiday Sunday!
I have never been much of a nature/wildlife photographer (unless you count the dogs at the dog park), but I took a few photos of this turtle at the park the other day before he jumped back into the water. I was using my telephoto lens without a tripod, so I wish it were somewhat sharper. I did the best I could with what I was working with. He looks like he is enjoying the beautiful late afternoon sun. What a life he has!
Basking in the sun on a spring afternoon…
I feel like I have been sitting at the computer all day today! Willie had to go to Long Beach again today and I think he will be there every day for a while. I have to do a slide show for my photography class so I was working on that getting some photos ready. Since I want to do a slide show from the VARA race anyway, I will use that one for class. It will be fancier then I had originally planned, plus there will be music, so that is a good thing. I have advanced web design class tonight, so I better get ready to go! I wonder where the turtle came from?
Someone drove this car out to the racetrack last week-end in Fontana. A lot of people drove their classic and vintage cars out there. I would guess this Buick is probably from the 1920’s, but I really do not know. It was a very pretty car and fun to look at. Maybe one day soon we will be able to drive our 1969 MGB to a race and maybe I will even join the VARA!
A two seater Buick Special…
I started the second five week course of the travel photography class this morning. My friend Annette is going too. I had a busy day today with a lot to do. Tomorrow I will be busy also and that is good. We were invited to my brother’s out in Corona today for a corned beef and cabbage dinner. Unfortunately we were unable to go. I needed to go to a memorial service at a pub today for a fellow student at Golden West College. I met many nice people. So that is why my post is late today!
I took a one day reprieve from racing photos, but they are back! This is my nephew, Greg Monise, driving through the chicane at the end of the back straightaway. He looks great, doesn’t he? You can see all the markings from the cars that were not able to make it as smoothly or successfully as he is doing it. I am sorry he was unable to finish the week-end because of the problem with his crankshaft.
Gliding through the back chicane…
I had a very, very busy day today and I am now finishing this in class. The instructor should be here in about 20 minutes. It is my advanced web design class. I sold a book through Amazon so I had to take care of that, then I went to a new clients house to pick up some candles he wants photographed for his website. Then I just had to make some cookies to bring to class. I got everything done but I know tomorrow is going to be just as busy if not more so!
Here is another photo of part of the urban landscape here in Huntington Beach. We are seeing a lot more of this around town as I am sure all of your are in your own home towns. I took this photo for my group project on effects of the financial crisis. This is the photo I wanted to use as my contribution, but the group chose another. Oh, well. I guess that is how a democracy is supposed to work. I thought I would share my choice here with you.
A common sight around town…
We will be finished with this project tonight. We will print up our images and they will be critiqued in class by the other students and the instructor. I spoke with my brother Frankie last night and he said that Geoff won both his class and the overall win at Sunday’s race. I am sorry we missed it but there will be other races. Congratulations to Geoff and all the people at VARA for a great week-end!
This is a photograph I really like. Unfortunately, I do not know who the driver is or what car he is in (except the number). If someone sees this who knows him, please let me know. I took a few other photos from this angle of some drivers, but I like this one the best. I would have liked one like this of my nephews, but we were watching from another location at that time. I have started to work on my gallery/slideshow. I took all of these images in raw so there is an extra step I need to do. So far I have been very happy with the outcome.
Gentlemen, start you engines…
Willie and I were going to go out to dinner last night but we ended up staying home bar-b-q-ing and it was great. I think we will go out Thursday evening instead. Daylight savings time seems so early this year – this must be the earliest ever! Is it? Larry and Shelley came by yesterday afternoon and I was still in my robe (how embarrassing). They were doing week-end errands and stuff. We needed some wood chips for the backyard and they picked them up for us. Pretty exciting, huh?
Here are some production cars leaving the grid to go onto the track for their second practice of the day. We were at a great location to view and photograph all of this action. The VARA (Vintage Auto Racing Association) is a great organization. All the people are very friendly and out to have a good time. They share a lot and care about each other and the cars. I have so many photos to go through, but I do hope to have a slide show up by the end of the week. I will put a link here when I have it ready. I want to thank my brother Frankie and my nephews for a great day.
Corvettes, Porches, Datsuns, etc. taking off from the grid…
I grew up in a racing family, my father and one brother raced cars and my other brother raced motorcycles. Now they do restoration and this is a great group of people for them to know. They had a barbecue yesterday for any and everyone and it was very good. Check out their website when you get a chance at Frank Monise Motors. There is a link at the sidebar here. Anyway, I saw some people I have not seen in a long time yesterday and it was great. I will post more photos from yesterday, but I will try not to bore you with them!
We spent the day today out in Fontana and we had a really good time. I took this photo at the late afternoon practice session of my nephew Geoff. My nephew Greg did not have much luck this morning. Some kind of problem with the crankshaft on his car so he was unable to complete practice and will not be able to race tomorrow. It is a beautiful facility and I cannot believe there was one just a few miles away in Ontario that was torn down many years ago. I will give you a link here if you want to know more about what goes on there. There are NASCAR Races, etc. there.
Geoff Monise on the straightaway…
It was a fun day and I enjoyed seeing Carol and her husband Bill. I think Bill really enjoyed it – he seemed very excited and appeared to be having a lot of fun. It is now 8:30 on Saturday night – the latest I have ever done a post. I have a lot of photos to go through and I will do a slideshow on my website. Willie took a lot of photos also. I took over 150 just myself and he probably took twice as many! I have a lot to look at! Until tomorrow…
I was at the park trying out some panoramas. There are four photos in each shot and I think they came out pretty good. It is for an assignment for my photography travel class and I think it was a great idea. I have often thought about doing it but it has been a long time since I have even tried. I have had my Canon 20D camera for many years and yesterday I finally downloaded the software that came with it to do a “photostitch.” This five week class has been great and I want to thank the instructor, John Clark, for the new ideas I have gotten.
Surf City’s own Central Park…
This is just one small area of the park. It is a beautiful Friday here, though a little chilly. We will be up early tomorrow morning as I need to go to class and then we are going out to Fontana for the VARA (Vintage Auto Racing Association) Route 66 Races. It will be a fun day and I hope the weather stays nice! Our friends Carol and Bill are going but my other friend Cheryl will not make it. I look forward to seeing my brothers and other family members, including Larry and Shelley. Have a fun day!
This is one of the photos I will be using for my Flash final project. I was going to use it yesterday, but then I got sentimental and used the decal photo instead. I am looking forward to working on the project and I hope I can pull it off. I will post it on my website (can’t put Flash here) when it is done. It is due December 11th, so wish me luck!
They repair and restore English automobiles….
Well, Donnan’s vet called Saturday morning and read the pathologists report to me. Bottom line, it was a cyst, originated in a hair follicle and contained a lot of bacteria. If it had burst, it could have caused a lot of infection. There is nothing we could have done to prevent it. As long as all of it was removed, nothing else needs to be done. I was very happy to get this news and really glad that we decided to have it removed. So, we just have to get through the next 8 days and get the sutures removed. Hooray for happy endings! It is very windy and hot here! Have a great Sunday!
