She is now six days old in the photo. I used a very high ISO because I didn’t want to use the flash. Inside her little bed in the living room there wasn’t a lot of light. You can see the reflection of the window on her eyes. She is getting very alert and her eyes are attracted to the light. I didn’t remove any noise but I think it looks good. This camera is great! It is doing exactly what I wanted it to do. Next week we are going to take a four generation photo. All I did to this photo was a levels adjustment and a slight temperature adjustment.
This is my three year old baby Donnan. I spent some time brushing him today. When he looks like this, we call him “foo foo,” because he is so fluffy. Next, I will work on his four year old sister, Kyla. This is the same little guy jumping in this post. I did a few adjustments in Camera Raw, then I took it into Photoshop, and I really didn’t do anything. He is my little sweety and I love him. He is not crazy about being brushed, but he accepts it and is much better than Kyla who cries and moans with every wisk of the brush!
Today was finally the day for over 25,000 people to be part of the 2009 Photo Walk. It was a beautiful evening in Laguna Beach, CA, with a great turn-out of fellow photographers. Willie and I met some very nice people. Our group leader was Alan Sisto, a professional photographer himself. Our friends Carol and Bill were there and it is always nice to spend time with them. I finally decided what photo to show you from today!
The photographers are ready to start walking…
Dinner was good at BJ’s in Laguna Niguel. Overall, I think it was a successful evening. The weather was great, in the low 70’s. There were so many people at the beach! I will start going through my images and Willie’s tomorrow. Everyone was very nice and very willing to share and talk about photography. There was a wide range of equipment too – from camera phones to high end professional gear. It will be interesting to see everyone’s images when they are downloaded. Laguna Beach is beautiful. Maybe next year we will go to San Diego or Santa Barbara!
This is my first “list” post and It will be somewhat longer than my usual posts. It is our day 2 assignment from “31 Days to a Better Blog.” This image shows my worksheet. My list shares my favorites from all the topics and more. I use this blog to try different things with photography. Some succeed and some do not. Let’s see what this one does!
Creating my list post…
- I love sitting and talking with my mentor William Wertz. He has been a great teacher and influence on all my photography. He is my “go to” person for any questions I have. He is always willing to take the time to talk and share but he is also able to tell me I will have to wait.
- I love looking at my old photo albums and slides and knowing I am the only person who has that photo from grammar school or high school because I was the only one with a camera.
- I love the anticipation of opening up a new Photoshop Users and Layers Magazine when they arrive in the mail. I love the great photography books I own plus the books from other areas of digital arts.
- I would love a new Canon 5d Mark II. The equipment and software that is available now is phenomenal. New cameras have so many bells and whistles, but we still need to know how to take a good photograph. I don’t think the manufactures can put that into their cameras.
- I love to photograph everyday life and things in nature. Also special events for people. I love that they trust me on a very important day or occasion to get just the photos they want.
This is from Eleanor’s front yard, she lives right across the street. She has many pretty flowers in her yard. I figured you would want to see this rather than another dog or some wildlife! I really like the color – doesn’t it seem a little different? She had some nice pink and white roses too, but I chose this one. It was a little windy again so I was glad I was able to get the photo.
A peach of a rose…
It was a very sunny day today and it was warmer too. Willie took the dogs for a walk today and brought me another pretty rock. I had a good meeting with my broker this morning. We were able to get some good work done. I worked on my slide show today from the races a couple of weeks ago. I really want to get it done so I can share it with you! I have class tonight and I hope it is not going to be too late.
Willie has been bugging me about my post the other day of the morning shadows. He thought I should have used this photo so I decided I would present his choice. There is a lot more going on in this one with many, many angles. I chose the other one because of the negative space which balanced the shadows. If you have an opinion, please share it with me.
Some busy morning shadows…
Our dinner plans last night were postponed because Carol was not feeling well. We will get together again soon. I started my first class yesterday morning. It was good. It deals with travel photography and taking photos that mean something to you. Larry came by yesterday but he wasn’t here very long. I made us a nice dinner (chicken cacciatore) and we had a nice evening. Check out my January 2009 Photo Gallery. What will tomorrow bring…?
While feeding Kyla and Donnan this morning, I was looking around the patio. There I saw, what I thought, were some great shadows created by the patio furniture. I went into the house and got my camera. Both dogs were very interested in what I was doing and wanted their picture taken also. I am happy with the outcome of this photograph. I like the shadows (of course) and the few leaves that blew onto the patio.
A sunny morning on the patio…
The weather is warm and windy today. It seems like it changes from day to day. This has been a very odd winter so far. We watched Mamma Mia! the other night. Neither of us liked it. It did have location going for it, which was gorgeous, but that is the only thing. Willie took us out for a seafood dinner last night. It was delicious and we had a very nice evening. What will I photograph today and where will I be?
This photograph has many of the elements I love that can be found in photography. It has contrast, it has angles, it has shadows and it has a lot of texture. It does not have a lot of depth of field, but that is alright. It is just a simple wood retaining wall with some kind of ground cover growing on the top and down. I hope you can see what I see and appreciate the elements I am referring to.
Texture, shadows, angles and contrast…
Willie didn’t think I should post this photo today. I think because it looks similar to another one I have already shared with you. I know it is a very simple photograph, but it is my weblog! We have no plans for tonight (New Year’s Eve). I wanted to go out for a nice dinner but never made any reservations. We can have a nice dinner at home together. Maybe we will be able to see some fireworks. I know we will hear them from Disneyland – every night at 9:30! Have a safe New Year’s Eve and a fun New Year’s day!
Isn’t this a gorgeous sunset at the Huntington Beach Pier? There were a few die-hards on the pier and there are always some brave surfers on this cold winter evening. The sun is just peeking through the pier pylons, setting over the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula. Willie and I went down to the pier with the dogs. You can’t go on the pier with dogs so we stayed on the sand. Boy that sand gets cold!
A gorgeous winter sunset…
It was a beautiful sunset last night – just a few wisps of clouds in the sky. Luckily I had my telephoto lens with me! That is pretty much all we did for Willie’s birthday. He chose what we did and this is what he wanted to do. We never did make it out to dinner! We watched the Dark Knight. I thought it was good – Willie was not too impressed. There are only a few days left in 2008. It has been a very eventful year for the Casas family and friends. 2009 is going to be great!
I was up early and noticed these great shadows on our livingroom french doors. The back of our house faces south and we get the morning sun shining from the east. It created some very nice shadows. When I see something that looks interesting, I need to grab my camera and shoot! That is what I did and the results are rather unusual.
Beautiful morning shadows…
I have been spending some time looking on Craigslist, Amazon, etc. for a new laptop. I have always used a PC but I am thinking about making the change to a Mac. That is what we use at school and I think that is how I want to go. I have a desktop PC and a Toshiba laptop that I have had for three years. I have been looking at the MacBook Pro. They are so epensive though! Oh, well! I spoke with both Larry and Shelley today. They will be leaving in a few hours and they are very, very excited! Until tomorrow…
It rained all day yesterday and I was very busy. This is a photograph I took of a rose that bloomed in my front yard. It is also on the home page of my website. It came out well. I have photographed these roses many times, but it has been a while. I have another rose I took a photo of that is on my business cards. I hope you enjoy it. I could not resist sharing it with you because it is such a beautiful photograph!
Shelley came by and picked up some tamales and beans yesterday. Larry called last night and they were a big hit! They both really liked them (I made special cheese ones for Shelley)! I got the biggest compliment from Larry: “they remind me of my grandma’s” (Willie’s mom who died 20 years ago). Gayle is going to make more chicken but I don’t know about me. It is a lot of work. Maybe if I can get Willie to help. The dogs seemed to enjoy playing in the rain. They looked like drowned rats!
Three days ago Willie brought in a rose he cut from the backyard. Its bloom was gorgeous. On the same stem was a bud that was wrapped tightly. We didn’t think it would open. Well, yesterday morning it started to open. I took the photo this morning with my +1 close-up filter and no flash. I think it came out very beautiful – very soft.
We woke up to rain this morning. It is probably going to rain all day. There is a lot of snow up in the mountains. If it is clear tomorrow, I will try to take a picture of the mountains covered with snow. We are also going to try to get to the mall tomorrow. If nothing else, at least to do some window shopping. I made the sweet tamales last night and Willie liked them. I don’t like them myself so he can have them all. Until tomorrow…
They have the most beautiful trees at Golden West College! I took this one early Saturday morning before the swap meet or any other traffic arrived. The ground was damp from the morning fog and dew that had just lifted. If I had gotten there a little earlier, I could have photographed the fog too. I am showing it in black and white so there will be no distractions from the green grass and red curbs. I have another tree from GWC posted at 10/365.
It still has not rained around here but there is a lot of snow up in the mountains. I am anxious to hear from Larry to see how much snow there is and I am sure they took some pictures. I have a lot to do today so I better get busy and get my pork cooked for the tamales and some fudge made for Larry and to take to my friend Gayle tomorrow. My new calendars should arrive tomorrow. It will be a busy week!
This is a photograph I took of the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, CA. We have seen a lot of great shows and performers there over the years. Doesn’t it look like the Phoenix Rising? I think that that is a perfect interpretation. I took this late in the evening as people were inside enjoying a show. I wanted to try to get a shot without any, or at least not very many, people. It worked out perfectly. That was a better way to spend my evening than going to school (my instructor said I did not have to go).
The beautiful Phoenix Rising…
I posted my Flash project (Frank Monise Motors) on my web site. There is a link at the bottom of my What’s New page. I can’t post it here because WordPress does not support Flash. Willie and I are going to go over to South Coast Plaza later today to do some shopping and look at all the sights. We haven’t been over there in a while so it will be fun to walk around and maybe have a nice lunch with my wonderful husband – the love of my life and my very best friend. Now I start the second 100 of my photos – that is quite an accomplishment!
I think I discovered a new galaxy yesterday and I wasn’t even trying! Pretty amazing, huh? How do I find out if anyone else has seen this before? Looks like remnants of an exploding star and maybe a few black holes. What should I name it? Maybe Bridget’s Nebula? No, I don’t think so. What are those dark lines? Maybe they are worm hole trails! Have you ever seen that before? I am so excited!
My new galaxy….
I have always been interested in astronomy. I took a class years ago at Citrus Junior College. They have a small little observatory. Willie and I were dating then and he would pick me up after class some times. I love going to the Griffith Park Observatory. We haven’t been in almost two years. I think it is time to go again! Well, enjoy the photo and let me know if you figure it out!
