An Older MG

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on September 13, 2009

MG

When we were at the shop on Friday, this 1950ish MG was there being worked on. Isn’t it a good looking vehicle? I remember when I was learning to drive, my father almost bought one for me.  Maybe that is why I bought my own years later!  There are always great cars there to photograph. I had to increase the ISO to 400 to get enough light on my sensor to shoot inside. I also had to use different shutter speeds to compensate.

Entrance to the Gold Line

This is a rather unusual photo for me, but every time we go to Pasadena I see this entrance. It always looks very gold and coppery to me. I gave it this filter to make it look as I see it. It shows the mountains and hiking trails which are close by, along with the sun and the moon.  There are also some palm trees along with the San Gabriel River meandering through the mountains. It would have been good if some people had been walking around!

210 Freeway and the Gold Line

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on August 6, 2009

When I walked up to take a look at the station from above the underpass, it was very noisy and a little scary! It is pretty narrow up there, and the freeway is so close!  I was looking down the tracks to see if a train was coming and I couldn’t see one. As I was half way down the stairs, I heard the train. I don’t know if I should have been happy or mad! That probably would have been more scary!

Allen Ave Under the Overpass

I believe I told you I would bring something different to you today, and I truely believe I have. We were in Pasadena today and when we get off the freeway at Allen there is an entrance to the metro link gold line. I have been wanting to take a photograph of it for a long time. The one I am showing you today is of the freeway and metro underpass. The entrance is behind me. This photo I had not planned on taking until I turned around and saw it. There is a lot of texture and angles. I hope you will appreciate all that it shows.

Southern California Triumph Car Club

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on May 30, 2009

We went up to Pasadena today to the shop where they sponsored the Southern California Triumph Club car show and tech meeting, where they discussed restoration of the old English automobiles. There were some beautiful and all very well cared for cars there. Willie walked the dogs around while I took some photos. I liked this TR3 model from sometime in the 1960’s. I will try to find out the exact year and will pass it on to you. It was a good morning and all the people were very nice. Update:  Gregg says this is a ’58 or ’59!

Great looking Triumph TR3….

One thing you should know about me by now is that I am an MGB person. I got to see mine today and it is coming along slowly. But that is ok. They have been busy at the shop so that is good for them. They have been “swamped” as Greg told me. It has been cold and overcast all day today – even a little misty. We watched the Dodger’s lose when we got home today and had some lunch. Did a few errands and I downloaded the images from today so I could pick one for you to see. I believe I made a good choice. Have a good week-end!

On the Campus at Cal Tech

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on May 15, 2009

Back in Pasadena today. I took this photo at Cal Tech. They are making a lot of changes to the campus and are even adding some new buildings! This unusual fountain is towards the middle of the campus and the “arms” or whatever they officially are called, move around from the water pressure. Sometimes the water gets going pretty high! Must have been designed by one of those Cal Tech students. It is a beautiful place to visit. Wouldn’t you love to be sitting on that bench in the background just taking all the activity in?

Beautiful campus at Cal Tech…

It is fun watching Numbers  on TV because they film here a lot and in other parts of Pasadena. I think they call the camMGB_0003pus Cal Sci.  Anyway, I like going up there! I took a few photos of the MG today at the shop. They are starting to put it back together after being painted. The paint job looks real good. I am adding a little thumbnail of it here because I said on my Tweet for today that I would put a photo on my blog. You can’t tell by this photo but it is coming along real good. Probably be ready in a couple of weeks. We will get new tires on the newly painted wheels next week. Have a fun Friday night and a great week-end!

Cute Little Snail in Pasadena

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on May 14, 2009

This is an image I took the other day at the Pasadena City Hall. Isn’t it a cute little fountain? They have a lot of fountains, including one that looks like a totem pole, and another with a turtle and a frog! They are all very cute and very clever. I like this one the best. I do not have a polarizing filter for my wide angle lens (that is an investment I need to make) so you cannot see all of the coins that were in the fountain, but I am happy with the results.

Did you see in the paper today how Schwarzenegger wants to sell off a lot of California’s landmarks to help the budget deficit? I was very surprised. What is he doing? Oh, well. I have worked most of the day on revamping my website, looking at lynda.com, learning about spry widgets, etc. It is a lot for my brain to take in! But I am getting there. Going to Pasadena again tomorrow to pick up Larry’s truck. Do all parents have to do this stuff for their 40 year old children? We will get the tires for the MG next week and soon it will be ready to drive. I cannot wait! The paint job looks great! What fun we will have!

A Pattern of Arches in Pasadena

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on May 12, 2009

Here is another photo I took in Pasadena yesterday. I was still looking for patterns and I thought these arches and lanterns were very appropriate. It is on Los Robles in downtown Pasadena across the street from the City Hall. It is such a great place to take photographs. I was born in Pasadena and lived there for many years. There is so much history in that town. I think I told you before that we would probably live there if it weren’t so hot and smoggy at times!

Beautiful arches and lanterns…

We had a good class tonight. School is almost over so that will be good. I am ready for a break. I hope to accomplish a lot this summer on my website and my weblog. I need a very productive summer!  I got my new Black Rapid RS4 strap for my camera. Willie put it on for me and I tried it out yesterday. I think it is going to work real well. It will make it so much easier to carry my camera around instead of having it hang around my neck. I never have liked that!

Old Town Pasadena

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on May 11, 2009

After reading the DPS  post for today, I decided I would look for a pattern, either man made or in nature, to photograph today. We were in Pasadena today at the shop and decided to go over by the Pasadena City Hall. It is a very beautiful area. This tile work is in a courtyard across the street and close to a hotel and some restaurants. I thought the colors and the patterns were outstanding.  There were many pretty  fountains and some great places to sit and take it all in.

At the shop, we looked at my MG which is being restored and looking great! We had lunch up there, took some photos and then came home. Kyla and Donnan came along for the ride. I had to get home because I had a lot of errands to do. I need to work some more on my photo for class tomorrow night and then I still have a lot to do on my website for Wednesday night. I have a few busy days ahead of me!

Welcome to Fantasy Island!

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on April 25, 2009

Do you recognize this, or are you too young to remember Fantasy Island? I was going to name the post, “De plane, de plane!”, but I decided against it. I took this photograph at the Los Angeles County Arboretum, located in Arcadia, CA. It is a fantastic place to visit. Since I grew up in Pasadena and Glendora, a school field trip was a common event to the Arboretum. We took Larry as a little boy and Willie and I love to go and walk around with our cameras. Because of the close vicinity to Los Angeles, it is used quite a bit for movies and TV shows. Many of the Tarzan movies in the 1930’s and beyond were filmed there because there is an area that replicates the jungles of Africa.

The lagoon next to the Fantasy Island house…

There is so much to see there and we really enjoy going. If you look at the link I gave you above, you will find a lot of information about the area and the history of this house plus the carriage house. It is another beautiful day in Huntington Beach. I worked on my “LinkedIn” affiliation and invited many people to join. I signed-up for a few groups myself. I was accepted into the “Women in Photography” group. I need to do some research to see how it will benefit me. I am hoping this will be a good thing. Larry and Shelley are having a great time up in Mammoth snowboarding and romancing (I assume) on their one week vacation. They will be home on Wednesday night. Are you having a good week-end? Let me know what you are up to!

Early 1930’s Riley Motorcar

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on February 13, 2009

We needed to go up to Pasadena yesterday to the shop (FMM). They had two collectors cars there to work on. One was a three wheeled 1949 Morgan and the other was this 1934 Riley. The Riley Cycle Company was a British bicycle manufacturer.  The company built the Riley motorcar from 1898 until 1939. There were many models. They later merged into British Leyland. Today, the trademark is owned by BMW. It is rumored this motorcar was purchased for over $100,000 a year ago.

We had beautiful weather again yesterday, but I do not think it is going to last very long. We will probably get more rain before the week is out. I made a doctor’s appointment for today.  My regular doctor has left the practice and moved up North. I hate having to start over with a new doctor. I hope I can finally get this stomach problem taken care of! Today is Friday the 13th – are you superstitious? I am not quite sure what this week-end is going to bring. I will let you know!

Part of Old Pasadena

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on January 31, 2009

I took this photograph in Pasadena, CA, early in the morning at the Pasadena City Hall. There is also a beautiful church right next door. This is really a composite of two photographs. I am very happy with the results. Using Photoshop really enhanced this photo. I have been watching a lot of my lynda.com videos on creativity in your photography. I have seen some things I wanted to try here and they seemed to work!

A beautiful part of Pasadena…

I was born in Pasadena and my family lived there for many years. If it were not hot and smoggy there, Willie and I would probably live there now! But we are very happy where we are. Pasadena is a beautiful city and holds many great memories for me. Willie was even going to school at PCC (Pasadena City College) when we met! Well, this concludes another month of photos on my quest for 365. Please stay tuned for more!

Back Again at Cal Tech

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on December 1, 2008

It is such a beautiful place, I had to show you another photo. The architecture is so beautiful. This must be some kind of grape plant growing on these arches. Look at the trunks; they look like they were braided at one time.  I love taking photographs like this. Sometimes I feel like I am archiving things. But this is photographed so much mine is not needed. We both took a lot of photos.

caltech_2_2431-copy

When we go places to take photos, Willie has his Canon Rebel and always takes so many more photos than I do. He is getting better all of the time. I told him to start his own blog and show his photos, but he does not want to. Larry and Shelley are going to take his camera to Scotland. They are looking forward to the trip so much and have so many plans. The weather has been beautiful here. I hope it stays that way! My third month of adding photos is complete. This is the first one for month four. The November 2008 Gallery is up and running!

California Institute of Technology

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on November 30, 2008

I took this photo at Cal Tech in Pasadena. Cal Tech is the academic home of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), which is not far from the campus. It is a beautiful campus, I guess actually located in San Marino not Pasadena. There are so many beautiful buildings, trees, fauna, etc. to photograph. All of the growth is lush and some has been there a long time as you can tell from the way the ivy has taken over this building. We went early in the morning and there aren’t many people around on Saturday of a holiday week-end. Cal Tech is also where the TV show Numbers is filmed.

caltech_2425

It was another good day yesterday. I didn’t get any homework done but I will work on that today. Willie and I do not have any plans. I would like to get Willie to finish up the fountain for the backyard – it is still not up and running. Willie lives in the slow lane so there is no rush to him. Kyla and Donnan are doing fine. Donnan is even getting some hair growing back already. Hope you are having a good weekend!
