I took this photograph at the Getty Villa. They have a lot of people standing around telling you not to take photos of this and that. However, I took this image of a window and in that window was this beautiful reflection. I was up on the second floor and there were windows all around each exhibit room onto a hallway with a kind of atrium in the middle. I was very happy with the results and I hope you like it. I guess there are no rules against taking pictures of their windows!
An ancient Roman statue of a beautiful woman…
It was a good day today but a little cooler than yesterday. I made an appointment to take both Kyla and Donnan for a grooming on Friday. Willie was just on the phone with his father (he will be 87 in August). He frustrates Willie so much it is almost funny. He is the only parent left for the two of us. He has always been a very nice man. Willie calls him at least once a day, most days twice, and Larry is over there too helping his grandpa when he can. He takes very good care of himself and he lives alone. He doesn’t drive anymore so he asks me for a ride once in a while. No problem – I will help as much as I can too.
Now that it is officially summer, it is time to catch some images with sunshine as the main focus. The sun here is reflecting on an aluminum chair and it has created an unusual image. I got up from my computer chair this afternoon and looked over to see this unusual reflection. I went to grab my camera so I could take the photo before the sun moved too much. Willie was here and grabbed the tripod for me. I did need it to complete the shot.
What do you think of this image? Willie is not too keen on it! I try to look for unusual things to photograph. I think this one qualifies. I get unusual images like this when it is spontaneous and just happens. We do not have summer weather here yet (which is fine with me). It is still more like Spring – in the mid 70’s. Kyla and Donnan were shaking in their boots last night because of some fireworks. Kyla started it and she has transferred her fear to Donnan. What are we going to do on the 4th of July? Tomorrow I will give you the link to the wedding photos. I downloaded them on Zenfolio but I want the family to approve them first. Is that ok?
I love to photograph light in different situations. Two of my favorites are shadows and reflections. Well, this photo was taken in bright sunlight on a white board, shooting the reflection of a round piece of orange crystal “candy.” I guess it could be interpreted as many other things if you didn’t know! I thought it was interesting, though rather uneventful or spectacular. I guess one of these days I need to decide what I want to photograph. I am all over the board!
What is this strange formation…?
Anyway, it is a rather odd photograph. Maybe I should have chosen something else! Once I get this far I don’t make any changes – I am committed. I believe there have been a few times I should not have been so committed! It is an absolutely gorgeous day today. I hope the rest of the week is just as nice. But now I see there may be rain on Tuesday! Where does this come from? My spring break is over and it is back to school this week. Did I accomplish much? I don’t think so. Have a good week.
This is a photo I took from the Huntington Beach pier late one recent evening. It was a chilly evening but there were still some diehards on the beach. Lights are starting to flicker on. The water is blue and silvery with the setting sun glistening down. Winter and early spring is a great time to go down to the pier. I guess any time of year is a good time!
A wintery evening in Surf City…
The weather was starting to warm up a little but now I hear we may have some rain this week-end. It changes from day to day! Class was good last night and we are learning a lot about CSS and Spry Widgets. I have some photos to do for my Saturday morning class and some more work on my slide show. My work is never done! I am glad I do not have a class tonight – I can sit and relax with Willie and the dogs!
It was a sunshiny morning so I wanted to take advantage of it and take a pretty shot of my little yellow ducky. Isn’t he cute? He is made from beautiful Lalique crystal in France. This was given to me by the same dear friend who gave me my beautiful Lalique butterfly. I miss my friend. My ducky has cute little web feet, feathers on his back and wings with a very strong bill and sharp eyes.
How I love my little yellow duck…
He doesn’t go swimming too much. He is just to look at and enjoy. Class was good last night. The instructor is so good and really wants us to learn a lot. It is a fun class and I enjoy going. Learning CSS code is like learning another language! He is willing to help me with my website and the one I started in Flash class last semester for Frank Monise Motors. I still have a few photos to take for my Saturday morning class. Maybe this afternoon we can go to the park. Until tomorrow…!
I decided to shoot a photo with some beautiful pieces of crystal shaped like candy. My mother gave these to me years ago along with a beautiful Waterford bowl. There are other colors of candies such as red, purple, orange and yellow, but these are my favorites. Larry has given me a few also. I did a close-up and you can even see some air bubbles in them. I used my +1 close-up filter, 1/50 at f25 so it would all be in focus. I hope it works for you. I am not crazy about the white at the top.
Beautiful pieces of crystal…
I shot this on a white mat board outside. It was not as sunny as I would have liked. It is rather overcast and cool right now. My photography class is tonight. I wonder what we will learn? We have a group project we are working on and we will meet tonight. I have taken a few photos for the project and I am sure the others have also. I have some photos to take for my Saturday class too. Anyway, I guess that is enough for now!
This photograph shows the ducks having a good time on the lake. They are swimming around and creating the ripples in the water. I really liked the reflections in the water of the clouds and the trees. The ripples help show them off. Right before I took this photo there was a mother and little kid feeding the ducks so that is why they are all over on the other side. It was a beautiful day at the park!
A fun-filled morning at Central Park…
There is a little restaurant at the park called the Park Cafe. There is only outdoor seating so there are always people there with their dogs. In all these years, we have never eaten there. I was looking at the menu yesterday and I would like to go for breakfast sometime. I think we will wait until the weather warms up! Class was good last night. We are learning how to work in CSS (cascading style sheets) and it is almost like a whole new language! Have a good day because I know I will!
Isn’t this image beautiful? We had a great sunny day yesterday and Willie was outside taking some photographs. It was good motivation for me and got me out shooting. This Lalique butterfly was given to me by a very dear and special friend a few years ago. It is gorgeous and very special to me. I love the bright sun light shining through. It was fun taking this photograph and I like the results. It is different from what I usually do, but I am trying to go “outside the box” as the saying goes. Thank you Willie for the inspiration – I love you.
Lalique crystal from Alsace, France…
I was not too happy last night. I went to class and there was a sign on the door that it was cancelled. I always feel very cheated when that happens. As students, we pay a lot of money for our classes and we do not get a make-up class or any money back when a class is cancelled. I take these classes to learn, not for the credits. I got my degree a long time ago. I guess I have vented enough. I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way. What will I photograph next?
It is winter here in Surf City, alias Huntington Beach, but you would hardly know it by all the people at the beach. I was able to get this very late afternoon shot without anyone in it. The sun glowing on the water is so pretty. It looks very silvery. Notice the rock on the sand that has the sun reflecting on it. There were many sea gulls flying around, but none of them made it into my photograph. I like the photo and I hope you do also.
Silvery, reflective sunset on the beach…
It is fun going down to the ocean. It always looks so different from one day to another, but it is always intimidating to me. I am not a water person – it frightens me. I am fully recovered from my birthday celebration and my special dinner Willie made for us. I have a few appointments today and then I will be back home. I want to take Donnan to the park for a walk. I hope Willie and Kyla will go with us. My week has been from the mountain snow to the desert to the beach – what a life!
This is the last photo I will post here from my visit last Wednesday to Olvera St. I am putting the rest of the photos on my Web Site in a slide show. I thought this green door and the wooden door behind it had a kind of mystery. It was in the morning and the sun was a little low. There were beautiful shadows, and the sun reflecting upon the dark wood and the dark green paint were very intriguing to me. It makes the carving on the door stand out more also. I hope you like it. To see all the photos, click this link to my web site.
What is behind the green door?
These vertical photos take up more room then the horizontal ones on these pages! The only thing I am not crazy about in the photo is the aluminum trim – I think it should be wooden. But, no one asked for my opinion! I guess I could go in and crop the photograph – I’ll think about it. Well, now I need to search out some new photo ops for this week. It will be great fun! Have a good week!
This photograph was taken at Union Station on Alameda St. in downtown Los Angeles. This is not from the part of Union Station that you have all seen many times in movies. This is at the other end on the east side of the terminal. It is all new over there and this is a beautiful ceiling with the sun reflecting through. There is a beautiful water fall that starts at the top of a tower outside and ends in a pool inside the terminal. This is one more photo from our trip to Olvera Street and Union Station the other day. To see the rest of the photos, click this link to my web site.
Larry and Shelley invited us for dinner tonight. He asked me to bring some beans. I am anxious to show you a photo tomorrow from what we did this morning. It was a fun Saturday morning but we had to get up early! I will take a nap before we go to Larry’s. This has been a good photo op week and I want to take advantage of every opportunity I have! This post begins my third month of blogging. I am having a great time!
Driving through a parking structure last night, I noticed how strange the stairwell looked against the office building next door. Willie was driving and I made him stop and back-up so I could look again. I was hoping I could capture in a photograph what I saw – the zig-zag and distortion of the stairwell reflecting on the windows of the office building. I guess you never know when you will see something interesting!
I was lucky to have my camera and tripod (my new one) in the back of the Jeep. I am very happy with the results. When we got home we watched Gavin and Stacey on BBC. I had recorded it earlier in the evening. It is a very funny show and very sweet also. I am not a big fan of British humor, but this is a good show. We also watch all the British detective shows that have been on BBC from Netflix. Anyone else watch it?
This is the bottom of a bamboo plant with the roots showing that my mother had for many years. It is in a tall glass vase layered with blue, green and white glass rocks. Willie is taking care of it now. I took it outside so I could get some sunlight reflecting on the rocks and water. It came out just like I wanted it to. I hope you agree. These are some of my favorite colors and they are very beautiful.
Larry is coming over today to help Willie with some work in the garage. We don’t see as much of him as we would like to, but I guess that happens when your son grows up and gets married! I will supervise and delegate – I am good at that. There was an article in the Los Angeles Times yesterday about the photography exhibit at the Getty Center, and particularily “Carlton Watkins and the Rise of Photography in California.” If you get a chance, check it out – it is very interesting.
I was in Long Beach last night with Willie. He goes a few nights a month for business. Since it was breezy and clear, I thought it would be a good night to take some photographs. I particularly liked this one with all the lights and the reflections on the water. It was a beautiful evening, though chilly. This area is south of Ocean Blvd. and across from the Queen Mary (which is behind me and to my right).
There are many things to take photographs of in Long Beach. It is quite a diverse community. There are many things here in Huntington Beach also. I would like to go down to Newport Beach and Balboa to take some photographs. It has been a long time since I’ve been down there. We are going to the Getty Museum this week, on Wednesday. So I hope to return with some good photographs for you. Until tomorrow…
I had a fun week-end so now it is time to get some work done! I watched several videos on Lynda.com so I need to get caught up on some work for school. I guess I need to do some housework too – and of course, photography! I really enjoyed doing the photo below. We drove up to the top of a parking structure and I wanted to get the reflection of the sunset in the glass building.
I am very pleased with the outcome. The added bonus was that the moon was in First Quarter and it is a great addition to the photo. There are some clouds reflecting on the one side but you need to look closely to see them. You don’t realize how fast the sun sets until you are taking photos with it! You finally see what you want and you better shoot fast! Well, I better get to work and get something done around here. Until tomorrow!
