Got a little break in the clouds late last night. You can see some cloud shadows in this photograph. I took two dozen photos and this one shows the face of the moon and some clouds. I did some sharpening and noise reduction in camera raw. Also some exposure adjustment so the moon would show up clearer. A levels adjustment in Photoshop and I was done. Maybe I should have increased the ISO and some of the clouds around the moon would have shown up. Compare this to another full moon photo I took almost two years ago.
Well we finally made it to Knott’s Berry Farm yesterday afternoon. We got there about 4:00 P.M. There were not a lot of people around. I could not resist taking this photo of Snoopy with the moon in the background. He looked so cute up there calling everyone to Camp Snoopy! I took other photos but I only show you one per day. Willie took some pictures also using our Canon SD800, a great little camera (Shelley still has his Rebel from their trip). I really like the fact that it takes great videos. Maybe I will use it this week-end up at the cabin.
Snoopy is a favorite of just about everyone…
We will be leaving soon for the mountains. It is about a 2 hour drive. We usually stop once to let the dogs stretch (and us too). It is an easy drive. Carol and Bill will be up early Saturday morning. They will bring Catey and Ali (30/365) and I am really hoping Donnan will behave himself. I kind of neglected the socializing with other dogs at a young age. I will keep him on a leash for a while until they all get used to each other. He will be the only boy with three girls so he should be pretty happy! I will let you know what happens! There is WiFi in the little village of Green Valley Lake so I hope I will be able to post tomorrow and Sunday. I will take my laptop with me. If it doesn’t work out, I will catch up!
I was outside in the back late yesterday afternoon and I looked up in the blue sky and saw the moon shining very brightly. There were some pretty whispy white clouds and an airplane flew in front of the moon. I thought it would make a nice photograph. I went into the house to get my camera. Of course, the airplane was gone but there were some seagulls flying by. I know it is not that special but I thought it came out nicely. I wish you could see more clouds.
Beautiful late afternoon…
The moon rose early yesterday at 2:47 in the afternoon. It will be full on the 12th – you can see in the photo that it is not quite there yet. The dogs played outside a lot today. Willie was out there and they love to be out there with him. They couldn’t care less about me. He is the “fun parent.” I was able to reorder my calendars today from Shutterfly (at no charge), so I was glad for that. I am very glad school is over. I have about a month and a half of freedom. Hard to believe this is my 100th photo I have posted here! Willie just told me congratulations!
I took my first photo at about 6:15 P.M. and then every few minutes after that. We live down the street from a grammar school and the moon was coming up behind the trees that were at the back of the soccer field. I stood at the end of the school’s driveway to take my photos and I got a lot of stares as parents were leaving with their kids from soccer practice. I like the way this image turned out.
Willie was outside last night playing with his telescope I gave him years ago for one of our anniversaries. I believe that when I purchased it, the salesman said you can get some kind of attachment to mount a camera on it. Who knows if that is true anymore, or if it ever was. It would be great if we could do it. The dogs were very antsy yesterday, so today will not be good for them with us gone all day at the Getty!
I tried something a little different last evening. I ended up taking 30 different photos of the moon about every two minutes then put them on top of each other in Photoshop. As most of you know who use a digital camera, there are no multiple exposure settings so you have to do that type of thing in post processing. It was a first attempt and the one thing I learned is I really do need that new tripod! There is so much movement with this old tripod and head. I did order my new ones so hopefully they will be here soon.
As the sky got darker, I kept the same aperture and increased the shutter speed by just a little. I am not real happy with the result, but I think you get the idea of what I was trying to achieve. I tried the same thing night before last, but it was too cloudy. Last night it was clear out. Beautiful day yesterday, in the low 70’s. I have a busy week ahead of me, but I will always find the time to take some photographs!
Did you see the moon last night? It has had a big influence on our lives, from music to poetry, romance and many of the mysteries of life. Do you believe that the phases of the moon affect our lives? Studies have shown that they really don’t. Anyway, it was a beautiful night last night and I enjoyed being outside. I was concerned that it might be cloudy and I would not be able to get my shot. I am happy with the image.
Willie took the dogs for a long walk at the park. I wish I could have gone with them, but I had too much to do. I had a great day yesterday and it was a beautiful day in Huntington Beach. I was on the computer a lot, working on my blog, and of course my math. I have a busy day today, so until tomorrow…
I had a fun week-end so now it is time to get some work done! I watched several videos on Lynda.com so I need to get caught up on some work for school. I guess I need to do some housework too – and of course, photography! I really enjoyed doing the photo below. We drove up to the top of a parking structure and I wanted to get the reflection of the sunset in the glass building.
I am very pleased with the outcome. The added bonus was that the moon was in First Quarter and it is a great addition to the photo. There are some clouds reflecting on the one side but you need to look closely to see them. You don’t realize how fast the sun sets until you are taking photos with it! You finally see what you want and you better shoot fast! Well, I better get to work and get something done around here. Until tomorrow!
