Good Friends Jumping For Joy!

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on May 31, 2009

These friends of Ryan’s (the groom in the center) were all so wonderful! They are all so theatrical and willing to do anything. Ryan was very active in the drama department in high school and was always in the school plays. He is very talented and we always enjoyed going to the programs. Now he is ready to graduate from college and will be doing something with audio in the movie industry. I hope I have that right! He will be a father in November, so this has been the year of changes for him! He is a great young man and he has chosen really good friends.

Ryan’s closest friends having a lot of fun together…

I had fun playing around with textures, watercolor and a couple of extra backgrounds in Photoshop. This is not something I normally do, but what the heck, it was fun! I have a good photo of the bride and her attendings being Rockettes – maybe at a later time I can play with that one too. Everyone was a good sport and we had a lot of fun doing these fun photos after all of the “formal” ones. Everyone was ready to go in to the reception and have a rockin’ good time!

Back in My Backyard

Posted in Huntington Beach, Photography by Bridget Casas on May 19, 2009

I am somewhat embarrassed by my last two posts – well the dogs are cute, but that food, ugh! I really need to work on my food photography if I am going to attempt that again! I decided to go back to my yard and do some exploring. It has been a while since I photographed anything out there. I put my +4 macro filter on my camera, gave it a wide aperture and this is what I came up with. I totally shoot in raw with the Manual setting on my camera. I like to set my own aperture then do a little bracketing with the exposure to see what looks good. I hope you like this image.

Texture, shadows and a little color…

It is a beautiful day outside today. I can hear a lot of birds chirping as I am typing this. They must be enjoying the weather also. The dogs spent the morning outside lounging around. They are in the house now and Willie and I are getting ready to have lunch. I told him, “Let me finish this post first, I’m almost done!” I am sure you probably have people waiting at times for you to finish a post! I have some errands and shopping to do today, then back to the website! Have a good Tuesday.

A Special Easter Treat

Posted in Personal, Photography by Bridget Casas on April 12, 2009

I guess I am not very “pc” saying Easter, but that is what I know. This is one of Willie’s favorite candies and I wouldn’t let him have any until I knew I got the photograph I wanted. This is a pretty little candy bowl that was my mother’s. It almost looks like a stock photography image! It is a beautiful day today. Willie and I went to breakfast and then did a few errands.  We are staying home the rest of the day to  watch the Dodger game and barbque a nice steak!

The colorful sweetness of Spring…

I saw this other weblog this morning that had some images on it with a similar look to some of mine. Check it out if you get a chance. She does close-ups with textures and movement.  I am trying to interact with some other photographers who show their photos on weblogs. I have links at the side to a few I enjoy looking at from time to time because they are different from what I do. I hope I hear from my nephew Greg tomorrow. He asked me for his grandma’s pot roast recipe to fix for Easter dinner for his wife. Isn’t that sweet?

All Stacked Up

Posted in Huntington Beach, Personal, Photography by Bridget Casas on April 10, 2009

This is another photograph in my series on rocks. I did circles of rocks, a depth of field study with rocks, a few individual rocks and now this one. I wanted to see how many rocks I could stack up and I took photos as I went along. Of course, I chose a windy day outside to do this, and it created a problem for me. When I got up to eleven rocks,  I called it quits. Maybe I should have looked for one little pebble for the top. It was fun to do – and I would appreciate a comment from you about it.

A beautiful group of beautiful rocks…

These rocks have been gathered from the desert, the mountains, the ocean and everywhere in between. I love them and they have a lot of sentimental value to me.  It was rather chilly and windy today. I hung around the house today – with Willie and Kyla and Donnan.  I finished up two more photos for my candle client and I will get them to him tomorrow. As soon as he has his new website  up, I will add a link here. Please take a few minutes to look at the photography sites I have listed in my sidebar. I enjoy them very much and I think you will also.

Look at My Hunk of Gold!

Posted in Huntington Beach, Personal, Photography by Bridget Casas on April 6, 2009

Isn’t this a gorgeous piece of rock with gold running through it? Willie brought this to me last week after he was out with the dogs.  See how it shines and even a small piece is reflecting on the white board? The other colors in the rock aren’t bad either. I was busy today with some clients. I walked around outside and saw this sitting on the patio table. It was a sudden choice for today, but a good one! I will do better tomorrow.

A gorgeous piece of fools gold…

Is this a form of pyrite? I love the texture and variety of color in this piece of rock. How often do we stop and look at a rock like this? Is it like “stop and smell the roses?” I used a close-up filter so I could get in real tight. It actually got rather warm today. I don’t think it is going to rain tomorrow.  I gave the dogs some ice cubes today. They actually love “cubes.”  Kyla will bob for her’s if I put it in her water bowl! They are so silly!

More Shadows and Texture

Posted in Huntington Beach, Photography by Bridget Casas on March 30, 2009

I was at Central Park earlier and I wanted to catch some morning shadows. I caught a few, plus many different textures! I liked this photo because of the contrast, along with the foregound, middle and background. It leads you down the path around the tree – do you want to know where it goes? It was a great morning at the park. Again, many people  taking advantage of the nice weather. I like to go off by myself to take photos but I really need Willie as my motivator. He always has  good suggestions.

Checking out the “jungle” trail at Central Park…

Willie is always wanting to learn more about taking photos. I tell him he needs to read his manual and discover what the camera can do. But like so many other people, he doesn’t want to learn that way! We were talking about the continuous shooting mode on his camera this morning. He said, “If I had known about that, I could have taken better pictures at the races a few weeks ago! That is what I was trying to do!” You know what I said to him? “Read your manual!” It is good advice for everybody – my teacher on Saturday morning keeps telling us that!

Shadows and Texture

Posted in Huntington Beach, Photography by Bridget Casas on March 29, 2009

I enjoy photographing shadows and textures, especially in nature, so I am pleased with this image. I used my 50 mm lens at f8 and I am surprised there is not more depth of field. I will have to ask someone about that. I am really enjoying taking all of these photos to share with you and I like exploring and looking for new things to shoot. Some days it is hard to do, but so far I have not missed a day, even though there have been a few snapshots thrown in!

Jasmine roots wrapped around a bakers rack…

Yesterday in class I heard my instructor telling another student not to post photos of your dogs or cats. He said no one else really cares. As the owner, you have an emotional attachment to the animal and you see how cute and loving they are. So, I guess that makes sense and I will not post any more photos of Kyla or Donnan (unless I feel it is totally irresistible!). Really, I guess I get a little carried away sometimes and I am sorry! We never got to speak with the birthday boy yesterday but we left him a message on his cell phone and sang Happy Birthday to him.

A Close-Up Photograph

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on February 27, 2009

I like this photograph. I was thinking about shooting this when I got up this morning but I was not able to get to it until about half an hour ago. I used my +4 macro filter, outside, with the sun low coming from the West (of course).  I guess the 18  is the length of the wrench. It is a big one! This post is rather late today and I do apologize for that. I am having fun exploring new things to photograph and getting different lighting effects. This one shows a lot of texture and shadow.

macrowrench_20090227_4346-copy

A very much used tool that has seen better days…

I had a busy day today. I took my father-in-law to get his cell phone looked at and we ended up getting him a new one, then we did a few more errands with him. I took my laptop to my computer guy Steve to get it worked on. Then I took Kyla to the dog park and I did not have my camera with me! It was kind of spur of the moment. I took her with me to go to Steve’s and then we just headed for the park. She had a good time sniffing everything. Willie and Donnan joined us a little later. I will have one more post for this month. I hope it is a good one!

My Little Yellow Ducky

Posted in Personal, Photography by Bridget Casas on February 26, 2009

It was a sunshiny morning so I wanted to take advantage of it and take a pretty shot of my little yellow ducky. Isn’t he cute? He is made from beautiful Lalique crystal in France. This was given to me by the same dear friend who gave me my beautiful Lalique butterfly. I miss my friend. My ducky has cute little web feet, feathers on his back and wings with a very strong bill and sharp eyes.

How I love my little yellow duck…

He doesn’t go swimming too much. He is just to look at and enjoy. Class was good last night. The instructor is so good and really wants us to learn a lot. It is a fun class and I enjoy going. Learning CSS code is like learning another language! He is willing to help me with my website and the one I started in Flash class last semester for Frank Monise Motors. I still have a few photos to take for my Saturday morning class. Maybe this afternoon we can go to the park. Until tomorrow…!

At Mesa Verde Campus

Posted in Photography, School by Bridget Casas on February 21, 2009

I had my travel photography class this morning. I guess a lot of people had a problem with the depth of field and macro projects. So the instructor had everyone bring their cameras and he set up some things outside. I did not feel I needed one on one help on that so I just walked around the school yard taking some photos. I was trying to create something striking out of something very ordinary that people walk by all the time and do not notice. Let me know how I did.

mesaverde_20090221_4250-copy

Seen everyday but not really looked at…

There is some lack of depth of field as you can tell I am focused toward the middle of the image. Anyway, class was kind of slow this morning and a little too basic for me. But I always try to learn something! People are so talkative and ask so many questions! Larry and Shelley are up at the cabin. He called and said their is a lot of snow – but we already knew that, didn’t we? The weather is kind of overcast today and it is cooling off again. Have a fun Saturday night!

More and More Bells!

Posted in Photography by Bridget Casas on February 20, 2009

This plant, whatever it is, is getting so big and becoming weighted down with all the pretty pink bells! I took a photo of it last month but I wanted to share another one with you. I put the white board behind it so there would be no distractions and to show off the shadows that it helped create. I used my wide angle lens but ended up coming in close on it.

bells_2271-copy

I love the little bell’s shadows…

Not only are the little pink flowers pretty, but the leaf structure is very pretty also. They form flowers themselves along with a varied color range. It is a beautiful day here this Friday morning and the week-end will be no different. Check out all the snow up at GVL via the webcam. I am sure there will be a lot of people up at the mountains skiing and snowboarding this week-end. I have class tomorrow morning and then maybe we will go up to the mountains!

A View at Central Park

Posted in Huntington Beach, Photography by Bridget Casas on February 18, 2009

I went over to Central Park this morning to check out the water levels on the small lakes that are there. It has been very dry for quite a while. There was plenty of water and the ducks were having a great time! I was glad to see that. I was hoping to get some water pictures (which I did get a few) but I liked this one of the branch in front of the blue sky and the white clouds. One cloud was quite gray so we may be due for some more rain. I like the highlights of the sun shining on the top of the branch, then the dark shadows beneath.

branch_2267-copy

A gorgeous day at Central Park…

There were a lot of people at the park walking around with friends, with their children or their dogs. People were taking advantage of the sun shiny morning! I have my web design class tonight and I want to watch some lynda.com videos. After class last night, I realized I need to learn more about shooting in RAW and then processing in the raw workspace  in Photoshop. There is always something new to learn! Have a good day!

Black and White Macro

Posted in Photography, School by Bridget Casas on February 15, 2009

Yesterday I showed you depth of field, today I present a macro photograph. The object is that you will need to look at it for a moment or two before you know what it is. Is it working? I took this photograph with my +4 macro filter in my backyard. The dogs were curious about what I was doing. They are very, very nosy! As you can see, there is very little depth of field. Maybe yesterday’s photo and today’s should be shown together!

macro_2207-copy

A macro photograph of…?

We are waiting for another rain storm to hit us. It rained some Friday afternoon and then yesterday was sunny but chilly. Now it is starting to cloud up again.  We are going down to Laguna Niguel later today to see Carol and Bill. Hopefully it will not rain until after we get home because we will need to leave the dogs outside. I think tomorrow is considered a holiday – have a good day if you get it off!

A 3 Rock Still Life

Posted in Photography, School by Bridget Casas on February 9, 2009

The first assignment in my Tuesday night class is to photograph a still life with three items we can hold in one hand. The ones I took for class are done under different lighting and settings,  but I thought I would take one for my weblog. These rocks were given to me by Willie, Kyla and Donnan. They often come home with little presents for me when they go out on walks. I really like the colors, the markings and the “worm” holes.

stilllife_2133-copy1

A still life with three of my favorite rocks…

The sun is now finally out after some rain this morning! It is supposed to be clear tomorrow and then rain again on Wednesday. I think we are going to have to go up to Pasadena tomorrow morning to pick up the hard top for the MGB – only if it is not raining.  The dogs got loose out front this morning. It is such a hassle to get them in – they are very uncooperative and will not come in! Donnan will eventually come but you need a lot of strategy to get Kyla!  Willie just told me it is starting to rain again!

Isn’t This Amazing?

Posted in Huntington Beach, Photography by Bridget Casas on February 3, 2009

As I was looking at this cactus this morning I was amazed at what I saw. It has all of these perfect little concentric circles with needles forming a perfect design. Nature is a very amazing thing, isn’t it? Such symmetry! Things like this are all around us and we never notice them. What is that saying? Oh, yes – be sure to stop and smell the roses. We need to pay attention to them.

cacti_20090203_4140-copy

A common form in nature…

I took this photo in bright sunlight with a close-up filter of +2. It almost looks like it was taken at night with a flash! I have my first assignment to complete for the travel photography class. I will work on it later today.  Kyla and Donnan are enjoying the nice weather playing outside. I am completely stumped. I do not know what to write here. Maybe I should give this up – my life is too uneventful for a weblog.

Giant Bird of Paradise

Posted in Huntington Beach, Photography by Bridget Casas on February 2, 2009

Here we have another early morning photograph of shadows and texture. The sun is shining through the leaf of a giant bird of paradise with some jasmine leaves showing through. Most people think the plant is a banana tree plant, but it is actually a giant bird of paradise. When it blooms the flower is about 12″ or more tall! The leaves are concentric and the array of colors is beautiful!

leaves_20090202_4129-copy

Beautiful bird of paradise leaf…

I am so glad I have another class starting tomorrow. Could it be an addiction? It makes me happy and I really look forward to it. Again, the weather is beautiful here today! It is supposed to snow up in the mountains on Thursday and Friday. I told Willie I would like to go up on Wednesday after school.  I will keep an eye on the GVL web cam and see how it looks! Until mañana…
